Aunque el ejercicio físico regular no representa la panacea para todas las
dolencias de la humanidad, es reconocido que un programa de entrenamiento físico
dirigido a desarrollar los componentes de la aptitud física relacionados con la
salud, principalmente la tolerancia cardiorrespiratoria o capacidad aeróbica,
ayuda a mejorar la calidad de la vida del ser humano. Esto se consigue
mediante el aumento en la capacidad funcional para efectuar trabajo físico y la
prevención
de enfermedades crónico-degenerativas que incapacitan a la persona, que entre las cuales se
pueden nombrar: las cardiopatías coronarias, hipertensión, diabetes sacarina
(mellitus), la
obesidad y sus complicaciones, enfermedades cerebrovasculares, problemas/dolores
en la espalda baja, osteoporosis/osteoartritis y artritis prematura. El concepto de prescripción de ejercicio se refiere al proceso mediante el cual a una persona se le diseña un programa de ejercicio en forma sistemática e individualizada (ACSM, 2014b, p. 466); incluye la cuantificación de variables que determinan la dosis del ejercicios, tales como el tipo de ejercicio, frecuencia, duración, volumen y progresión (ACSM, 2014b, pp.162, 179-180; ACSM 2014, pp. 466, 468,). La prescripción de ejercicio forma mate del proceso global de la metodología del entrenamiento físico. Tal sistema estructurado, de programación de ejercicios físicos, consiste en planificar, diseñar e implementar un conjunto movimientos iterativos que generan el organismo humano, con el fin de conservar u optimizar parte, o todos, los constituyentes de la aptitud física (ACSM, 2014b, p. 468). OBJETIVOS DE LA PRESCRIPCIÓN DE EJERCICIO
En este segmento se discutirá las razones por la cual se lleva a cabo un
programa de ejercicio. Además, se habrán de exponer algunas definiciones
relacionadas con este tópico. El fin fundamental para la mayoría de las prescripciones del ejercicio es aumentar o mantener la capacidad funcional del individuo. Esto permitirá que la persona pueda funcionar efectivamente en sus tareas físicas cotidianas y en su vida laboral.
Propósitos para la Prescripción de Ejercicio
El objetivo fundamental de la prescripción de ejercicio es proveer aquella
ayuda necesaria para que los participantes puedan incrementar su actividad
física habitual, es decir, modificar su comportamiento hacia un estilo de vida
más activo. Los principios de la prescripción de ejercicio son
flexibles. Esto dependerá de las preferencias-metas individuales y de la
magnitud y velocidad de las adaptaciones desarrolladas por el individuo.
Tales principios se encuentran alineados con aquellos que forman parte del
entrenamiento físico (o deportivo), como los son: 1) especificidad
(especialización), 2) individualización (variabilidad biológica),
3) variedad, 4) adaptación, 5) sobrecarga
(sobreesfuerzo), 6) progresión (aumento progresivo de la carga en
el entrenamiento físico), y 7) deterioro (reversibilidad) (ACSM,
2014, p. 467; Bompa, 1999, pp. 32-42; Gambetta, 2007, pp. 72-78). Otro propósito de la prescripción de
ejercicio es mejorar aquellos componentes de la aptitud física relacionados
con la salud, tales como la tolerancia cardiorrespiratoria o potencia
aeróbica máxima (VO2máx), fortaleza-tolerancia muscular, flexibilidad
y composición corporal. La composición corporal incluye el porcentaje de
grasa corporal (PG), masa corporal grasa (MCG o peso graso), masa corporal

de Ejercicio Historial de Salud: Consiste en identificar los posibles comportamientos de riesgo, o aquellos saludables, que posee el potencial participante. Además, permite estabecer los riesgos inherentes de éste, requerido al determinar la estratificación de los riesgos. Perfil de Factores de Riesgo: Este proceso forma parte de la evaluación de la salud realizada previo a que se pueda incorporar el individuo al programa de ejercicio. LOS COMPONENTES DE LA PRESCRIPCIÓN DE
EJERCICO: La planificación y diseño del programa de ejercicio individualizado debe incluir todos los componentes que se describen en esta sección. Estos ingredientes de la prescripción deben ser capaces de sobrecargar a una dosis apropiada los sistemas orgánicos del participante durante cada sesión de ejercicio (ejercicio agudo). A raíz de varias sesiones de ejercicio (ejercicio crónico), los tejidos podrán adaptarse a la carga bajo la cual se sometieron. Consecuentemente, se incurre en una adaptación morfofuncional, como lo podría ser un aumento en la capacidad funcional (Howley & Franks, 2007, pp. 151). Esto asegura un alto nivel de seguridad y efectividad para el programa a ser estructurado e implementado. Según el Colegio Americano de Medicina Deportiva (ACSM, 2014a, pp. 162-180; ACSM, 2014b, pp. 466-479), los componentes que debe incluir una prescripción de ejercicio dirigido a desarrollar la tolerancia cardiorrespiratoria (véase Gráfico 1, Tabla 1, Tabla 2, y Tabla 3) son, a saber: 1) la intensidad del ejercicio, 2) el tipo (modo o modalidad) del ejercicio a ser incorporado en el programa, 3) la duración de las sesiones de ejercicio, 4) la frecuencia o veces por semana en que se llevará a cabo cada sesión de ejercicio, 4) el volumen del ejercicio, y 4) la progresión del programa de ejercicio.
INTENSIDAD
La intensidad se refiere al
porcentaje de la capacidad máxima del ejercicio a practicarse. Representa
la presión fisiológica bajo el cual se somete el individuo.
